Ghetto a n d concentration
camp survivors, officials who
played an important role in re-
integrating the -remnants of
European Jewry after the Hit-
ler holocaust, and a colorful
artistic program will be fea-
tured at the 18th annual city-
wide commemoration of the
Warsaw 'Ghetto Uprising, .8 p.m:
Sunday at the Jewish Center, it
was announced by Mrs. Morris
Adler, chairman of the planning
committee.
In addition to Dr. Robert
Serebrenik, Emma Schaver,
Shamai Rosenblum and Cantor
Simon Bermanis, other parti-
cipants include Mala Dorfman,
Joe Goldberg, Rose Minc, Leo
Rosenfeld, Sigmund Rubin and
Helen Solarz, each of whom
lived through those nightmar-
igh years in ghettos and concen-
tration camps. Rebecca Froh-
man, concert pianist, will pro-
vide the musical background.
Prepared annually by the
culture commission of the Jew-
ish Community Council, the
event marks the anniversary
when the remnants of the War-
saw Ghetto survivors revolted
against the then seemingly in-
vincible German army in 1943
on the first night of Passover,
the holiday of Jewish libera-
tion and freedom. The upris-
ing of the unequipped and un-
trained Ghetto fighters, despite
the overwhelming numbers of
the Nazi troops and their tanks
and planes and flamethrowers,
lasted 42 days, when the last
of the survivors, after fighting
for each floor of a building,
went to the roof with the blue

March 15.
The auditorium will be built
in conjunction . with a $2,000,-

of State Hall and south of the
General Library.
The facility will be known as
the Helen L. DeRoy Auditorium
and will seat between 350 and
400 students. The ' auditorium,
with its auxiliary rooms and fa-
cilities, will cost $600,000.
Board of governors member
Benjamin D. Burdick, comment-
ing on the gift, noted:
"The DeRoys have done much
for the city over a period of
years. I personally want to ex-
press my thanks and also that
of the alumni with sincere ap-
preciation. The manner of pre-
senting it leaves us speechless .
The action of the Helen L.
DeRoy Foundation Board toward
Wayne State University is a mag-

in the future of our fine insti-

the Helen L. DeRoy Foundation,
and Arthur Rodecker, vice pres-

Dr. Clarence B. Hillberry,
WSU president, said the new
building will "make a significant
contribution to the efficiency and
effectiveness of our instructional
program."
The Michigan Legislature has
appropriated the first $750,000
toward the cost of the classroom
building. The remaining $1,250,-
000 has been asked for in this
year's budget. No construction
date has been set.

revolt was crushed.
The Detroit program has
been arranged in conjunction
with similar programs through-
