More Than 1,000 Algerian Jews Reported

Workers at the Timna copper mines come from all over
the world, like the miner at the left, who came to Israel from
Tunisia, and the one on the right, from Morocco. The copper
refinery and the mines, brought back to production with the
aid of Israel Bonds for the first time since King Solomon's
days, produce some 5,800 tons of copper annually. The metal
has been exported in the form of copper cement, but expan-
sion of equipment with the aid of Israel Bonds will soon make
it possible to produce the finished product at the refinery near
Timna.

PARIS — More than 1,000 Al-
gerian Jews have left for Israel
so far this month, it -was reported
here Tuesday by a visitor who
had just returned from Algeria.
The informant, whose name
was withheld, met with Jewish
leaders in Algeria. He told the
Jewish Telegraphic Agency that
an additional 1,000 Jews were
expected to leave for Israel dur-
ing the rest of the month. He
said these were in addition to
Algerian Jews leaving for France.
The Algerian rebel organiza-
tion has been trying to calm the
European community and the
Jews in recent days, asking them
to stay in Algeria after inde-
pendence is achieved, and assur-
ing them they would be useful
