Blondy last week offered two amendments to the pending Bill No. 1015 in the State Senate, that provides for "humane slaughter." The amend- ments, he said, assure ade- quate protec- tion for She- hita — tradi- tional kosher slaughtering. Never the : less, Blondy said, he is op- posed to the Blondy bill and will continue to raise objection to it. In the course of,the debate on the bill last week, Sen. Blondy charged that the bill was in- spired by manufacturers of "stun guns," devices used to render animals insensible be- fore they are killed. "Apparently the manufactur- ers of stun guns who have sold their product to some larger slaughter houses feel that these stun guns are not moving fast enough," he said. He intimated that the manufacturers are spon- soring the bill to increase sales. Sen. Blondy's two amend- ments were passed after debate on the Senate floor March 14. One provides that preyious spe- cific references to "the Jewish faith" in the original bill be deleted._The second amendment reads: "Nothing in this act shall be construed to prohibit, abridge or in any way hinder the relig- ious freedom of any person or g r o u p. Notwithstanding any other provision of this act, ritual slaughter and the ha-n- dling or other preparation of livestock for ritual slaughter are exempted from the terms of this act."
