BUENOS .. AIRES—Rio Negro
provincial authorities were dis-
closed Tuesday to have opened
an investigation into reports that
a woman whose body was found
in a mountain cave a year ago
was an Israeli agent seeking to
track down Josef Mengele, the
"selection doctor" at the Ausch-
witz murder factory.
The newspaper La .Razon de-
clared Monday that the victim,
tentatively identified as Nora El-

doe,, a 48-year-old Israeli, had
come to Argentina in an effort
to find Mengele, whose extradi-
tion has been sought by the West
German government.
La Razon reported that the
woman appeared at a luxury
hotel in San Carlos de Bariloche,
an Argentine mountain resort
and accepted an invitation from
a male guest to go on an excur-
sion. The male guest returned
alone from the hike, saying his
, companion had become lost. - The

guest,- whose name was not dis-
closed, then disappeared.
A few days later thewoman's

cording to La Razon, the victim's
credentials identified her as a
secretary of an unnamed embassy
in West Germany. The news-
paper said her papers included a
document signed by Ftesident
Frondizi, authorizing her to travel
anywhere in Argentina. The
presidential pass service issued
a denial that any such pass has
been issued.
La Razon reported it was be-
lieved the woman was killed by
a secret Nazi group "formed to
protect Nazi war criminals hiding
in Argentina." The newspaper
also reported that the victim had
been in a Nazi concentration
camp as a child.
La Razon said the woman car-
ried a West German passport.
Both the West German and Israel
embassies here refused to com-
ment on the case.

"Einstein on Peace," edited by Otto Nathan and Heinz Norden,
published by Simon and Schuster. is one of the truly great books
of our times. It is a compilation of opinions by the "ablest man of
science of his generation," as Bertrand Russell states in a preface
to this book. According to Russell, "if statesmen had listened to
him, the course of human events would have been less disastrous
than it has been."
Einstein's opinion's, quoted in this remarkable book, include
his views on Zionism and on many other issues, as well as on peace
— which is the book's chief subject.
Pending a longer review of this book, the present discussion
will be limited to Einstein's opinions on Judaism and Zionism.
On Jan. 25, 1932, Einstein spoke at a dinner of the California
Institute of Technology. He posed the questions: "Why should our
civilization not perish from inner decay exactly as civilization did
under the Roman Empire?" Then he stated:
"Let me try to answer the question from a historical per-
spective. Our civilization has always been predicated upon the
