JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Presi-
dent Izhak Ben-Zvi expressed the
gratitude of the people of Israel
for the gift of an archaeological
museum by the children of Sam-
uel Bronfman, president of the
Canadian Jewish Congress and
chairman of the North American
section of the World Jewish Con-
gress.
In a letter to the donors, Presi-
dent Ben-Zvi declared that the
gift would help Israel achieve her
aspirations as a world cultural
center. The gift, one of the .larg-
est made to' Israel since the
founding of the state, consists of
erecting a building, which will
cost over $1,000,000, as well as
annual grants for the mainten-
ance of the museum and for
archaeological research and pub-
lications.
To be located on a 25-acre site
in Jerusalem, the museum will
contain various pavilions, galler-
ies, a library and lecture hall. It
will include the Bezalel National
useum, the Shrine of the Book,
hich houses the original Dead
a Scrolls, and the Billy Rose
arden of sculptures.
Adjacent to the Hebrew Uni-
versity campus and flanked by
the new Knesset building, the
site was provided by the govern-
ment. The museum is expected
to be' opened to the public.on the
15th . anniversary of Israel, to be
celebrated in two years. Presi-

FRANKFURT, (JTA)—A wit-
ness at the trial of a Nazi camp
commandant charged with 297
murders testified in Ansbach that
a camp doctor killed 100 Jewish
prisoneKs in honor of Hitler's
53rd birthday in 1942.
Victor. Opressnig of Linz, Aus-
tria, related the event at the trial
of Karl Chmielewski, who had
been commandant of Gusen. The
name of the doctor was not given.
In West Berlin, a tailor was
sentenced to fiVe months impris-
onment after telling a policeman
he would kill a Jewish restaurant
owner "and smash his windows."
The tailor, George Lubkowitz,
was accused of racial defamation
when he told police: "I am a
German. The Jews are getting in-
solent again." The police were
called by the proprieter of the
restaurant after Lubkowitz re-
fused to pay his bill of three
deutschemarks, about 70 cents.

MONTREAL, (JTA) — Two
gifts totaling $2,000,000 were an-
nounced here to mark the 70th
birthday of Samuel Bronfman,
president of the Canadian Jewish
Congress and chairman of the
North American section of the
World Jewish Congress.
One gift of $1,000,000 is a
grant by Bronfman's children to
establish a Samuel Bronfman
Archaeological and Biblical Mu-
seum in Israel. The second is a
gift of $1,000,000 by the Samuel
Bronfman Foundation for studies
to advance business and indus-
trial development •in Canada.
• A national tribute was tendered
to Bronfman at a dinner here on
the occasion of his 70th birthday.
Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president
of the World Jewish Congress,
made a special trip to MOntreal
for the occasion and lauded
Bronfman's leadership in the
WJC for world Jewry.
Israel Ainbassador to Canada,
Yaacov Herzog, spoke on behalf
of the Israel . Government and
made a presentation to Bronfman
on behalf of his • government.
Another leading speaker was
