The Jewish Center completed
its basketball season with the
end of play for Junior and Teen
Varsities and intramural
leagues.
The Teen Varsity, now mid-
western JCC champions, are
looking forward to the Jewish
Welfare Board finals March
25-26 in Boston. The Teens sea-
son record was 22-3.
The Junior Varsity topped
East Bethlehem, 21-18, to wrap
up Detroit • Pistons Knothole
League play. The Juniors, 4-2,
shared runner-up honors in the
league with Livonia Little
League, Southgate Lions Club
and Detroit Boys Club, all 4-2,
behind Highland Park Boys
Club, 5-1. Steve Fishman scored
3 /4ths of the JCC's points, with
16; while Gary Cass did the
same for East Bethlehem, with
14.
Overall, the Juniors are 7-4.
Billy Berris, Steve Fishman and
David Maiseloff were named to
the Knothole League All-Star
team.
Olympics won the Class A
basketball title. After winning,
the second round of play, they
defeated Kingstons, first round
winners, 47-39 and 55-41, two-
out-of-three in playoff action.
Imperial, won Class B action by
defeating Royals, 39-35 and
51-36.
•Debonnaires took two of three
from Kingstons to cop Class C
honors, 34-31 and 32-31, after
an opening 23-21 loss. Hurri-
canes, with an undefeated 6-0
record, won the Club Seven
league crown.

Miami Center Helps Relieve
Plight of Refugees from Cuba

MIAMI, Fla. — The Jewish
Community Center here has
opened its doors for service to a
growing number of Jewish
refugee families from Cuba's
terror.
Miami has felt the main impact
of the cm-rent Cuban crisis as
thousands of escaping Cuban
families have fled to freedom
in North America.
Center authorities, in con-
tinuing touch with local and na-
tional -welfare agencies, state
that the situation is bound to
become more serious as time
goes on and immigration con-
tinues.
The Greater Miami Jewish
Community Center is one of more
than 300 Centers and YM-YWHAs
affiliated with the National Jew-
ish Welfare Board. JWB reports
that this current activity of the
Miami Center is typical of the
