Historian Requests Information
on Michigan Jews in Civil War

Irving I. Katz, who for many years has been working
on a history dealing with the participation of Michigan Jewish
soldiers during the Civil War, has issued a request to the
community for information on the subject, including home
front efforts by civilian Jews and rabbis of the state in
that period.
- Katz already has a remarkable record of 177 names of
Michigan Jewish soldiers out of a total population of 150
families in the state in 1860. He is in need of additional
biographies in order to make his history as comprehensive
as possible.
Those who may be descendants of these soldiers or who
have information pertaining to the subject are asked to con-
tact Katz at 20 Gladstone (TR 5-8530),
