Israel Bond sales was set at the
Israel Bar Mitzvah Year inaugural
leadership dinner meeting held
Wednesday evening.
• The Jewish community of
Detroit is being asked to pur-
chase $100,000 worth of Bonds
for each year of Israel's exist-
ence in the State's Bar Mitzvah
year.
Detroit's quota is its share of
the national goal of $80,000,000
for Israel's Bar Mitzvah year. In
1960 Detroit Israel Bond cash
sales totalled $1,038,000.
Israel has mapped a develop-
ment program' for 1961 which
calls for expenditures of $247,-
000,000. Bond sales, it is hoped,
will finance one-third the cost of
developing the Negev and other
under-populated areas through in-
dustrial and agricultural expan-
sion.
Setting of a quota at the dinner
meeting chaired by Tom Borman
featured a new departure in the
history of the Bond drive here.
Those at the gathering includ-
ed Israel Bond Trustees, Builders,
Guardians and Sponsors; top De-
troit Bond committee leaders and
officers of participating organiza-
tions. The event was the signal
for the kickoff of the annual
Trustee-Builder-Guardian-Sponsor
re-enrollment action in advance
of the Israel Bond inaugural con-
ference in Miami Beach.
Col. Shoshana Gershom, 'wo-
men's affairs attache at the Israel
Embassy in Washington and for-
mer commander of CHEN, the
keynote speaker.
Borman announced that new
categories of top Israel Bond pur-
chasers have been set Up, as fol-
lows: Bar Mitzvah Trustees, who
purchase $13,000 or more in Is-
rael Bonds; Bar Mitzvah Builders,
who purchase $3,900, and Bar
Mitzvah Sponsors and Guardians,
who purchase $1,300 in Israel
Bonds.
More Detroiters are planning
to attend the Israel Bond inaugu-
ral conference in Miami Beach

Tsur, Israel chief of staff,
warned Wednesday that the
United A r a b Republic was
spending enormous sums to
build its military machine for
a total war on Israel.
He added that while war
leaders were running into dif-
ficulties in that effort, there
was not the slightest doubt that
they were making progress to-
ward their ,goal. .
He added that while Israel
was still "one step ahead," it
would have to work hard to
maintain- that advantage, which
he described as a qualitative
one.
