miritzer Emergency Relief Organization as a farewell for his
trip to Israel to see family and friends.
The Shorim Family Club installed new officers at a recent
meeting held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Weberman of
Kipling Ave., Oak Park. President Jack Tomarin announces a check

JCC Cage Tourney
The Teen Varsity won the
Midwestern JCC basketball
tournament at Akron, Ohio, and
is now eligible for the Jewish
Welfare Board national cham-
pionships, to be held March 25
and 26 at Boston.
Meanwhile the Junior Varsity
moved into second place in the
Detroit Piston Knothole League.
The Teens won three games
in two days to top the tourney.
They beat Youngstown JCC,,
54-43.
An easy 72-40 win over Akron
sent the Center to the finals
against the Toledo JCC. The
close game saw the Center hold
a 29-22 halftime edge, but
Toledo cut it to two points in
t h e third quarter. Detroit
spurted in the final period to a
44-42 win. Bill D a v i s, who
scored 54 points in the three
games, was voted most valuable
player in the tournament.
Later the Teens whipped
Berkley Recreation 43-25 to
bring their season record to
19-2.
The Juniors, now 6-3 for the
season, moved into second place
in the Piston Knothole League,
one-half game ahead of the
Detroit Boys Club, with a 26-21
victory over that group at
Olympia. The- Juniors are • one-_
half game behind the league
leading Highland Park Boys
Clubs. Billy Berris and Ricky
Gould scored eight for the
Center.
Teens will host Buffalo JCC 1
p.m., Sunday and Ferndale Rec-
reation 7 p.m. Thursday. Pro-
ceeds will go toward financing
the team's trip to the JCC na-
tionals at Boston, March 25-26.
Cyclones are the champs of
the Senior basketball league by
winning both 'rounds of league
play. They will represent De-
troit at the Senior • tournament
in Cincinnati, March 26-27.
