The memory of poet Yaakov
Cahan will be honored at a spe-
cial meeting of the Kvutzah Iv-
rith, at which lecturer and author
Haiyim Orlan will render an
evaluation of Cahan's works, 8
p.m. Saturday in the Jewish
Community Center, 18100 Mey-
ers.
.Cahan, Hebrew poet laureate,
died three
months ago at
the age of 80,
in Tel Aviv.
He is consid-
ered the last
of the great
four classic
poets of the
Hebrew Ren-
aissance per-
iod. (The oth-
ers were -Ma-
li k,Cherni-
chovsky and
Shneur).
Cahan's po-
etry and dra-
Orian_ matic works
will be discussed by Orian,
Cleveland author, essayist and
authority on Hebrew classical
poetry. His latest book, an an-
thology of all the poetic works
of Malik, plus addenda, has been
published in I§rael.
The program also will include
readings from Cahan's works by
Israel Elpern and Mrs. Deborah
Orenstein. Morris Nobel is chair-
man. All interested are invited
to attend.
