Good Reports in
Histadrut Drive

Progress is being made by the
1961 Israel Histadrut Campaign
and all indications point to a
successful drive by the time of
the Feb. 28 closing date, it was
reported this week.
A record number of volunteer
workers _attended the campaign's
first report meeting last Sunday
in the Hayim Greenberg Center
where division totals reported to
Isadore Shrodeck, chairman of
the breakfast session, showed
that all divisions were past the
50 per cent mark.
Sidney Shevitz summarized the
achievements of Histadrut dur-
ing the past 40 years, and set
forth reasons why it is incum-
bent upon the American Jewish
community to not only maintain
its present level of assistance to
the young State but to intensify
it in the coming years.
All divisions of the campaign
were represented at Sunday's
meeting, with the Farband group
leading. A second report meet-
ing on Feb. 12 in the Green-
berg Center, will be addressed
by Saadia Gelb, former Ameri-
can and a resident of Kibbutz
Kfar Blum for the past 14
years. Gelb, currently visiting in
the United States as a special
emissary of the Histadrut, will
be tendered a series of private
receptions in the course of his
five-day visit including a special
meeting with Branch 4 of the
Labor Zionist Organization, a re-
ception by LZO Branches 7 and
11 and a reception by the Israel
Study Group under the chair-
manship of Norman Katz.
Increased returns over The
previous year's drive are being
reported by Earl Weingarden
and Aaron Berg of the Furniture
Division. Biggest single produc-
ing group in the campaign is
Arlazaroff Branch 137 of Far-
band. Morritz Schubiner, His-
tadrut chairman of this group,
announces that arrangements
have been completed with the
Farband City Committee chair-
man, Harry Schumer, for a spe-
cial,Histadrut evening Feb. 14, at
which time they will play host to
Baruch and Nina Zuckerman, for-
mer American Labor Zionist lead-
ers and now residents of Israel.
The Feb. 12 meeting will mark
the first Detroit showing of
"Beyond the Wilderness," a
new dramatic color film based
on Histadrut's 40 years of
achievement.
