PARIS. (JTA) — A full-scale propaganda campaign appeared to be under way in the Kingdom of Morocco, its target the 250,000 remaining Jews. The campaign, developed in connection with the recent meeting of the Arab-Afri- can neutralist states in Casablan- ca which President Nasser of the United Arab Republic attended, seemed also to have been spurred by the news of the disaster that befell 43 Jews seeking to escape Morocco to settle in Israel. Al Fajr, a Government organ, declared editorially in a comment on the disaster that Jews should no longer be considered Moroc- cans "since their one aim is to leave Morocco." The Times of London noted in a dispatch from Rabat that de- spite assurances given a Jewish delegation by Crown Prince Mou- lay Hassan, agitation was in- creasing against the Jews in Morocco. The screening of the film, "Mein Kampf" depicting Nazi anti-Jewish measures, provoked anti-Jewish rioting at the cine- ma in Casablanca. Young Mos- lem nationalists were held re- sponsible. Later, a delegation of Moroc- can Jews was received here by Foreign Minister Golda Meir, who pledged that the Israel Govern- ment would remain firm in its demands for freedom of move- ment for Moroccan Jews. Speaking in Israel's Parliament, Mrs. Meir had already called on the nations of the world for sup- port against the "tyranny" im- posed on Moroccan Jews. She concluded by asking the Knesset to refrain from discussion in order not to aggravate the situ- ation. She proposed instead that the question be submitted to the Knesset Committee for Security and Foreign Affairs, a proposal which was accepted. Meanwhile, it was reported from many countries, Jewish and non-Jewish quarters were express- ing revulsion at the course of events in Morocco. In New York a meeting of the American Jew- ish Committee heard Frederick F. Greenman, chairman of the AJC executive board, describe the "campaign of brutality" ranging from wholesale arrests to torture. Greenman stressed that the incidents of brutality were com- mitted "by the police" and not "a single incident of mob vi- olence" had been reported. He added that such practices "cast a shadow across the future of a state where the police play a very crucial role." In London The Board of Depu- ties of British Jews called on the Moroccan Government "to restore and maintain the rights of the Jewish citizens of Morocco in accordance with the undertakings of the Moroccan Government at the time Morocco achieved inde- pendence and obtained member- ship in the United Nations." In its statement, the Board ex- pressed "deep concern with the worsening position of Moroccan Jews," citing the anti-Jewish agi- tation in Morocco "and other dis- criminations" against Jews there. The statement expressed the be- lief that "the good name of all countries, and their influence among the nations, depend on fairness, justice and humane treat- ment of all inhabitants and mi- norities." Significantly, an inf Tunisian newspaper, Afrique- Action, criticized the Moroccan Government for its policy of trying to force Jews to remain in the country. At the same time, broadcasts from Morocco, some of them disguised under the name of "Voice of Maure- tania," continued their anti- Tunisian attacks, accusing Tuni- sia's President Habib Bourgui- ba of "selling out to France, Zionism and American imperi- alism." Afrique-Action pointed o u t that, while it does not agree - with Israel's policy calling for "ingathering of the exiles," Tu- nisia does permit Jews wishing to emigrate.
