The Americans had strongly opposed the draft resolution when it was introduced. They urged the Congress to avoid political issues. Other resolutions adopted by the Congress, without opposition, urged the establishment of a spe- cial memorial project in honor of the martyred Jews of Poland, and - called for the creation of a special body within the World Federation of Polish Jews to co- operate with other memorial institutions like the Yad Vashem of Israel.
