NEW YORK-- Development needs amounting to $247,222,- 000 for 1961, to enable Israel to populate its undeveloped areas through industrial and agricultural expansion, w e r e presented to American Jewish leaders at a two-day national leadership conference of the Israel Bond Organization. National officers and com- mittee chairmen from 60 cities, who participated in the meet- ing at the Biltmore H o t e 1, pledged to provide a third of the necessary, total through the Israel Bond -campaign. On the basis of this deci- sion, the sale of Israel Bonds in 1961 would be expected to produce approxi ma t e 1 y $80,000,000 in new invest- ment capital. In the ten years of its existence the Israel. Bond campaign has ob- tained $476,091,750 for eco- nomic expansion in Israel. As a first step the conference Voted' to bring the total pro- ceeds from Israel Bonds to the $500,000,000 mark '-- b e f ore May 15. Calling for an extraor- dinary response in 1961 to the Israel Bond campaign, Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, vice president of the Israel Bond Organization, pointed o u t that Israel's 13th anniversary, being observed this year, bears the traditional. Dr. Schwartz announced that the 1961 Israel Bond campaign will be formally launched at a 1961 inaugural conference for Israel Bonds, to be' held March 3 to 5, at the Fontainebleau Hotel, in Miami Beach. Abba Eban, Minister of Edu- cation of Israel, and its former Ambassador to the United States, will be the guest of honor at the conference. He alSo announced that the 75 days beginning Oct. 8, the 75th birthday of Prime Minis- ter Ben-Gurion, _who, founded' the Israel Bond campaign, would be dedicated to a nation- wide celebration of the Israel leader's diamond jubilee.
