Launch Detroit Israel Histadrut Fund Campaign for 40th Anniversa Year -With a substantial portion of its 1961 goal already achieved through cash sums and pledges, the Detroit Israel Histadrut Campaign will. get • off to an official start next Wednesday An intensive series of pre- campaign activities on behalf of this local drive will draw to a close this weekend and set the stage for the opening event at a cocktail hour and reception 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hay- im Greenberg Center. Volunteer workers have re- ported that they are experi- encing little difficulty in re- newing subscriptions to the campaign and that because this year marks the 40th Anniver- sary of the founding of Hista- drut in Israel they are obtain- ing a substantial number of in- creases. In Israel, Eliav is best known for his literary activities, hav- ing edited the evening paper "Hador" and filled the position of political commentator on Israel's radio network "Kol Is- rael." Greater business volume in 1961 with a noticeable upward trend at midyear and a substan- tial increase in the sale of homes, is anticipated by Adolph Deutsch, president of the Amer- ican Savings and Loan Asocia- tion. Deutsch predicts an increase in savings that will release more money for mortgages and sees little chance for a decrease in the mortgage interest rate in the n e w year, he said.
