JOHANNESBURG, (JTA) —
Local leaders of all political
parties and racial groups at-
tended funeral services for the
late Alferd Markman, Jewish
Mayor of Port Elizabeth for the
last two years, who died sud-
denly.
Among the mourners were
leaders of the white and non-
white communities, as well as
prominent personalities among
the English and the Afrikaans
residents of Port Elizabeth.
Markman, who had been active
in Port Elizabeth politics, was
also one of the outstanding
leaders in Jewish communal
affairs.

Chicago office late Wednesday
of a heart attack. He was 64.
Surviving are his wife, Gert-

and two grandchildren.
