Fruition of two years of plan- ning came this week when the Detroit Section, National Coun- cil of Jewish Women, announced it will establish a "Half-Way House" f o r emotionally dis- turbed children. With a history of recognized organization f or aid . to the mentally ill, Detroit Section in 1958 launched an investigation of the facilities and care for these people at the agencies and institutions in this area. The study showed that a major problem exists in bring- ing back children from these treatment centers into a normal social environment. Because of the lack of facili- ties between the treatment cen- ter and the home, an alarming number of youngsters were re- leased too early to their homes or were sent on to state hos- pitals. The proposed Half-Way House will provide a sustaining envi- ronment which will help the child to achieve social adjust- ment and ultimately return to his family. Plans describe it as a group home for 10 children, ages six to 12, simulating the atmos- phere of a normal family set- ting, near a public school, close Arab Leader Tours Canada OTTAWA, (JEA )—Mohammed Abdel Hassouna, secretary-gen- eral of the Arab League, met for a half-hour this weekend with Prime Minister John G. Diefen- baker here. The visit was de- scribed as a "courtesy" call, and it was emphasized by a govern- ment spokesman that no political subjects were discussed. Later, Hassouna held a press conference, in which he repeated customary Arab League charges about Israel's alleged "re- fusal" to abide by United Nations resolutions, declaring the "Arab world objects to the establishment of Israel." He called for "repatri- tion" of Arab refugees to Israel. The Canadian press said scant attention to Hassouna's visit or anti-Israeli declarations. Colonel Hillel Al-Daag, chief of the Israeli Army's engineering corps, continued today to visit Canada's major military installa- tions, as a guest of the Dominion Department of Defense. Al-llaag arrived here last week at the in- vitation of the Canadian Army. He is accompanied on his tour' by Nol A. Tsur, assistant military at- tache to the Israel embassies here and in Washington.
