"Art Forms From Israel," an exhibit of handcrafted objects made in the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem, and in the cities and collective settlements in Israel, including Negev Desert materials, musical forms and other Israeli artistic creations, will be presented at the Detroit Institute of Arts from Dec. 1 through Dec. 18, it was announced by Franklin Page, curator of modern art at the Institute, and I. Pokempner, chairman of the culture commis- sion of the Jewish Community Council, which is co-sponsor- ing the special exhibit. A reception, to which the community is invited, will mark the formal opening of the ex- hibit next Thursday, 7 p.m. Characterized as a "window opening on the magic of Israel and its people," the exhibit was produced by the Israel Institute of Industrial Design in consultation with the Ameri- can Federation of Arts. Na- tionally it is being sponsored by the government of Israel in co-operation with the American Israel Cultural Foundation and Crafts From Israel. On . display are ceramics, silver, brass and copper metal- work, jewelry, textiles, wood and basketry. Some of the raw materials used by the crafts- men, such as stones from the Negev Desert set in jewelry and olive wood fashioned into wooden dolls, also are shown. The show, open to the com- munity without admission charge, includes specialized sec- tions on "Forms of Nature," "Forms of the Desert," "Life on the Land," "Fornis of the Word," "Forms of Faith," and "Forms of Life."
