Eichmann Story Is Subject of Many Books;
Reynolds Edits Account by Katz, Aldouby

In anticipation of the trial of
the arch Nazi criminal, Adolf
Eichmann, which is scheduled
to commence in Jerusalem early
in March, a number of books
already have been published on
the Eichmann Case.
Several paperbacks have been
issued. Among the first to
appear, several months ago, waS
"The Case Against Adolf Eich-
mann," by Henry A. Zeiger,
published by the New American
Library.
Another paperback of merit
is "Eichmann—The Man and His
Crimes," by Corner Clarke, pub-
lished by Ballantine Books (101
5th, N. Y. 3). In this story is
recorded "the savage truth"
about the Nazi who was respon-
sible for the death of millions
of Jews. Clarke tells "how it
all began," the genesis of the
tragic story of Hitler's brutality.
the assignation to Eichmann of
the role of mass murderer, his
role in the most brutal of all
historical episodes and his
eventual flight from justice be-
fore he was caught by the
Israelis in Argentina.
Supplemented by 16 pages of
photographs, this paperback
offers much of the evidence that
has accumulated against Eich-
mann.

There have been published
scores of magazine and news-
paper articles on the Eichmann
case. The most important work
on the subject, however, is
"Minister of Death: The Adolf
Eichmann Story," published by
Viking Press
(625 Madison.
N. Y. 22). The
complete story
is told in this
book by two
Israeli journa-
lists, Ephraim
Katz and Zy
Aldouby, who
prepared- t h e
manu script,
and was edited
by Quentin
Reynolds.
In his pre-
face, Reynolds
reports on a
visit he re-

ing all the data on the Eichmann
case.

Aldouby told Reynolds of
the "photostated documents
which prove everything we
wrote." Katz told him: "When
we quote Eichmann's conver-
sations with other SS officers
or with co-workers they are
actual quotes taken from his
memoirs." They are the
memoirs Eichmann began to
write in Argentina, and the
two Israelis received access to
them:

story. The Brand account, the
data supplied by survivors from
Nazism, dates and places, as
well as the texts of Himmler's
orders that were followed by
Eichmann and implemented by
him, are scrupulously detailed.
The authors, well-informed
men who know the details of
the Nazi atrocities and who
understand Israel's position,
anticipate the defense that will
be resorted to by Eichmann and
the approaches that may b
used by Israel authorities. Th
stated:

condemned to death the Israe
authorities will face a minor
problem; no execution has taken
place in Israel since the birth
of the state in 1948. There has
been no professional public
executioner in the country
since the end of the British
mandate, but a great many
people whose families were vic-
tims of the gas chambers have
volunteered their service s.
Among them is a certain Moshe
Benedict, an 80-year-old inhabi-
tant of the Malben (a home for
the aged in Natania. Israel),
who presented his qualifications
for the job in a letter to Ben-
Gurion. He. had spent three
years in a German concentra-
tion camp and he- had witnessed
hangings almost daily, which
made him an 'expert' on the
subject. Another volunteer is
Jan Kaminski, a wild-animal
trainer.
"Not only from Israel but
from all over Europe come re-
quests for the distasteful job.
A Scotsman wrote from Edin-
burgh to the Israeli authorities
saying he would be gladto hang,
