Yeshiva U. Studies Language Resources

A nation-wide study of our
ethnic groups to determine how
they can broaden America's
knowledge of non-English lan-
guages has been initiated by
Dr. Joshua Fishman, dean of
Yeshiva 'University's Graduate
School of Education.
The two-year study is sup-
ported by a $125,615 grant from
the U. S. Office of Education, he
said.
The grant had been made to
the University of Pennsylvania,
where, until Sept. 1, Dr. Fish-
man served as associate profes-
sor of human relations and psy-
chology and directov of research
of the Albert Greenfield Center
for Human Relations.
It was subcontracted to Yes-
hiva University when Dr. Fish-

man assumed his duties as dean
of the Graduate School of Edu-
cation this fall.
According to Dr. Fishman,
the study has been undertaken

Safety Association, the Detroit
Council of Churches and the
Roman Catholic Archdiocese of

The Jewish Community Coun-
cil Traffic Safety Sunday Com-
mittee is composed of Rabbi
Morris Adler, Dr. Richard C.
Hertz, Rabbi Leizer Levin and
Stanley J. Winkelman.
Mayor Louis C. Miriani, in
officialy proclaiming Nov. 20
as Traffic Safety Sunday, point-
ed out that traffic fatalities in
Detroit this year are approxi-
mately 15 per cent higher than
during the corresponding period
in 1959 and that Detroit is now
entering the worst period of
the year for traffic accidents.

Horace Mann is the father of
the American school system.
