AJC Women's Division James Rosenberg, Noted. American Artist, Donates Paintings for Archives Fund-Raising Auction. Here James N. Rosenberg, one of America's best known legal minds, who 10 years ago retired from law practice to devote him- self entirely to painting, has contributed four of his paint- ings to assist in the fund-raising efforts of the Archives of Amer- ican Art, in the benefit sale and auction to take place Nov. 12 to 16, at the Detroit Insti- tute of Arts. Mrs. Lawrence A. Fleischman, an active leader in Archives of American Art, stated that to each purchaser of Rosenberg's paintings also will be presented a copy of Rosenberg's highly- acclaimed book on his art works and his life story. One of Rosenberg's paint- ings is called "Galilean Kib- butz" and was painted in Is- rael, Mrs. .Fleischman said. Another also is an Israeli landscape. Paintings by other artists will be auctioned at 8 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Art Institute. Rosenberg, now in his 86th year, continues to paint. His works have been on exhibition in museums throughout the world. Of the Archives, Rosenberg says, "When we face realities in this tormented nuclear world, we dare not shut our eyes to the fact that neither our tri- umphs in World War II, nor our astronomical outpourings of treasure since then to revive a stricken world, have brought peace to the world; nor dare we underrate the power of to- talitarian nations and their vast propaganda machines. "Hence, I submit that it ' is essential for us to use every possible agency in the field of arts — literature, music, paint- ing, architecture, sculpture, the drama—toward acquainting the world with the culture created in this, our land of freedom.
