THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS — Friday, November 4, 1960 — 34 Works of _Late Sir Jacob Epstein Jews Cluster in Certain Fields Go on Display at Garelick Gallery Because of Bias, Surveys Show; To Garelick's Gallery goes Universities, AJC Conduct Study the distinction of having the first showing in this country of the works of the late Sir Jacob Epstein since the passing of the world famous sculptor and artist a year ago. The important exhibition will commence this Sunday at Gare- lick's Gallery, 20208 Livernois. A reception for the first day's guests will mark the formal opening of the exhibition. The exhibit will continue through Nov. 30, and it is ex- pected that visitors from all parts of Michigan will come to `KITTY, 1958' the gallery to see the great artist's works. Many of the widely acclaimed Included in' the collection works of the great artist will is Epstein's last work, his be on view and will be on sale bronze of his daughter. It is . during the exhibition. Among the Epstein works entitled "Kitty, 1958." on exhibition at Garelick's will be 14 bronzes and 22 drawings. The bronzes include an Al- bert Einstein bust lent by the Ben Shwayders and five others borrowed fro m the Charles Feinbergs, the L. Rosenbaums, the Moses Sayers and the Insti- tute of Arts. The . studies are being . under- taken by Harvard University and the University of Michigan. At the same time, the Atheri- can Jewish Committee, a co- operative participant in the Harvard and Michigan projects, made public the findings of a study carried out at Cornell University. The Cornell study probed the occupational and career choices of Protestant, Catholic and Jewish students at ten major American univer- sities. These studies were announced in Dallas, Tex., by Dr. John Slawson, executive vice-presi- dent of the American Jewish Committee, at the Committee's National Executive Board Meet- ing. Dr. Slawson said that these studies were undertaken be- cause of the fact that "during the past decade, management personnel employment at 500 of the largest American corpo- rations has increased by 45 cent.
