Honor Ed C. Levy on 60th Birthday;
Constructed $1,250,000 Israel Plant;
Ascribes His Success to 'Hard Work'

Edward C. Levy, 27815 Lake-
hills, Birmingham, one of Mich-
igan's most distinguished indus-
trialists, will celebrate' his 60th
birthday tomorrow, - and greet-
ings to him already are pouring
in from many parts of this coun-
try and from Israel.
Born in Big Beaver, Nov. 5,
1900, he attended the Big Bea-
ver, Troy Township, School, and

Levy says his hobby is "spon-
soring scholarships." He at-
tributes his success in life to
hard work, to living in compli-
ance with the Ten V Command-
ments, to honoring the golden
rules of humanitarism, to ad-
hering only to honest business
deals and to being loyal to his
friends, neighbors and associ-
ates.
Levy was married to the for-
mer Pauline Birndorf, Aug. 5,
1929. They have a son, Edward
Jr., who is married to the for-
mer Julie Honigman, a daugh-
ter, Janet, married to Arnold
Aronoff, and two grandchildren.

came to Detroit in 1912 to con-
tinue his education here. He
explains: "I did post-graduate
work in the University of Ad-
versity."
He has succeeded, through
his own efforts, in establish-
ing a vast business. He is
president of the Edward C.
Levy Slag Company, with
plants in Detroit, Dearborn,
Ecorse and Trenton, supply-
ing the bulk of . the quality
construction aggregates in the
Metropolitan Detroit area.
He gained fame with his ef-
forts in behalf of Israel. He
planned, purchased and put to-
gether the largest construction
aggregate plant in the Middle
East, at a total cost of $1,250,-
000. He made seven trips to
Israel and spent 241 days there
erecting and instructing citizens
of Israel .to operate the plant
which supplies the bulk . of ma-
terials for the concrete product

tary uses, concrete and asph

and airports.
A devoted worker in and
a generous contributor to the
Allied Jewish Campaign, Levy
was a charter contributor to
Sinai Hospital. He aids vari-
ous Catholic, Protestant and
Negro movements, in addition
to supporting many Jewish
causes. He is a life member
and a major contributor to a
school and home for visually
handicapped children.
He is a member of American
Road Builders Association,
Michigan Road Builders Associa-
tion, National Bituminous Con-
crete Association, Engineering
Society of Detroit, Detroit-To-
morrow Committee and Nation-
al Rivers and Harbors Congress.
Levy is president of National
Slag Association. He is a life
member of the National Defense
Transportation Committee and
is a member of the board of
directors of United Foundation,
United Negro College Fund
and Urban League.
A Founder of the Technion
in Israel, he serves on several
pro-Israel investment boards.
He is a member of the Detroit
Round Table, is a 32nd de-
gree Mason and is a member
of Perfection Lodge, has been
a member of Temple Beth El
for 40 years, is a member of
Franklin Hills Country Club,
Standard C 1 u b, Wyandotte
Yacht Club and is a board
member of the International
Freedom Festival between the
United States and Canada.
