his sack and run away."
This conversation took place be-
tween two members of the border
police. Israel's borders are long. In
most places they can be crossed
easily. It is the task of the border
police to guard the borders of the
country against enemies.
The people who live in the cities
see the green.bereted -young men
only rarely. On the other hand, they
are well known in all the settle-
ments scattered along the borders.
The members of these settlements
go to sleep every evening with the
comfortable and safe feeling that
someone is guarding them and their
property. -
The border police gives the State
of Israel and its residents a feeling
of safety and ,tranquility.

UNITED NATIONS, N.Y. —
As the fifteenth session of the
General Assembly opened here,
with heads of government a dime
a dozen and with mo7e eclat,
security, artificial excitement and
a race for TV network time than
one ever witnessed in these
staid halls, one fact stood out

o'er.
Unless the Arab states start
shooting—either with words or
with any other weapons—Israel
is no longer fighting against any
one, including the Arabs. Israel
is now well launched on a brand
new policy—to demonstrate to
the world that, imperturbably,
