Newspaper Urges Italy to Secure Compensation for Nazi War Victims ROME, (JTA) — The Italian g •vernment was sharply criti- cized by Avanti, official news- paper of the Italian Socialist party, for having taken no steps thus far to obtain from the West German government compensa- tion to Italian victims of Nazism. According to Avanti, Italy and Switzerland are the only Western European countries that have not as yet even tried to negotiate such an agreement with the Fed- eral Republic of Germany. The newspaper declares that hundreds of Italian citizens had suffered losses under the Nazi regime, while many others had been sent to extermination camps "for racial, ideological or political reasons."
