College Examination
Board Approves Hebrew
For Entrance Requirements
NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
College Entrance Examination
Board which administers col-
lege entrance tests to high
school graduates throughout the
country has approved the ad-
dition of a Hebrew achieve-
ment test as part of the Board's
college entrance language ex-
aminations, Dr. Judah Lapson,
of the Hebrew Culture Council,
reported. The decision to in-
clude Hebrew tests in the Col-
lege Entrance Board examina-
tions is in accord with the poli-
cies of some 1,500 colleges and
universities, which accept high
school Hebrew study as fulfill-
ing their entrance requirements.

Pogroms Doubled Canada's Jews
The Jewish population of Can-
ada was more than doubled in
1882 when several thousand
refugees fleeing from the wave
of anti-Jewish pogroms in R.us-
sia arrived in Montreal and
Toronto. In 1881 the Jewish
population of all Canada had
been estimated at 2,443.
