`Torah Study Never Stops' for These Grads

If Torah and carpentry sound
like a rare, if not strrnge com-
bination of interests, the 42
young men who graduaied re-
cently from the Yeshiva of Ha-
bad don't seem to notice.
For these students, ranging
in age from 17 to 20, were
graduating from the carpentry
school of this yeshiva in the
well-known village of Kfar Ha-
bad, inhabited by I ubavicher
Hassidim, some 20 mile., south
of Tel Aviv, Israel.
Of the three vocational
schools established at th Ha-
bad Y e s h i v a, the carpentry
school is the oldest. Dr. Leo
Jung, chairman of the cultural
committee of the Joint Distri-
bution Committee, in 1952 pro-
posed setting up vocational
schools in Kfar Habad. JDC

agreed to provide the financial
aid, with funds from the United
Jewish Appeal.
The first vocational school
for carpentry was founded in
1954, the agricultural school
year later, and in 1959, came
the printing school. Present fac;.
ilities are filled to capacity by
170 students.
A Habad student works hard.
Along with the vocational train-
ing, which is a regular course
of studies set up by the Minis-
try of Labor, there are intensive
Yeshiva studies in Talmud, Hu-
mash and Hassidism
And so far, according to the
JDC, over 90 per cent of the
carpentry school graduates have
found jobs in the furniture and
building trades, while a few
have set up shops of their own.
