NEW YORK, (JTA)—Samuel D. Gershovitz, 53, executive vice-president of the National Jewish Welfare Board. died in New Rochelle, N.Y. He had been executive vice - presi- dent of the JWB since 1947. Gershovitz joined the JWB In 1939 as field direc- tor of its Mid- West section. He served as executive di- rector of Jew- ish Communi- ty Centers in Chicago from 1944 to 1947 Gershovitz returning to the JWB in 1947. He was a member of the board of the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and also a member of the gov- ernors board of the American Jewish Historical Society. In 1952 he won the Sam Beber Award of the Bnai Brith Youth Organization for his long career of service to young people. Was Noted Attorney Judge Robert S. Marx died in his summer home in Charlevoix Tuesday. A prominent attorney, he be- came nationally known when he won a $35,000,000 suit against stockholders of Detroit banks during the depression in the early 1930s. He was counsel for receivers of two closed Detroit banks. A World War I veteran, he was a founder and first national commander of - Disabled Ameri- can Veterans.
