Gives Oriental Party for
New Section Members
A special service award was
presented by the AMVETS to
Benjamin Levinson of Franklin
Mortgage Corp. of Detroit at the
organization's recent 16th annual
national convention in Miami
Beach, Fla.
Levinson attended the awards
program on the opening of the
convention, Aug. 25, at the Deau-
ville Hotel. He was invited by
AMVETS National Commander
Harold T. Berc, of Chicago, to
attend the convention "and be
cited for major contributions to-
wards veterans and in the field
of veterans' housing."
The organization stated that
Levinson is r e c o g n i z e d for
the organization of mortgage
clinics; encouraging national la-
bor unions to invest in G.I. mort-
gages; securing the renewal of
the Special Assistance program
by the Federal National Mort-
gage Association for the purchase
of more VA mortgages; and head-
ing up sound public relation
drives aimed at boosting the
sagging G.I. mortgages.

will hold an oriental garden
party 1 p.m. Wednesday at the
home of Mrs. Jerry Krandall
for all new members who have
joined since May, 1960, and
Council members who have re-
cruited one or more new paid
members.
Attendance will be by invita-
tion only, announces Mrs. James
Van Vliet, Detroit Section presi-
dent.
Mrs. Krandall's garden will
be transformed into an oriental
tea garden and exotic refresh-
ments will be served.

Hack-Studies Shoe
Industry in Israel
James A. Hack, who has been
traveling extensively in Israel
for the past six weeks, spent
some time recently in Kibbutz
Givat Brenner, near Rehovot,
Israel.
Upon completion of 31/2 years
service with the U.S. Navy, the
last two of which were spent
in London as a Lieutenant, J.G.,
Hack took a vacation in Cannes
and then sailed from Marseilles
on the S. S. Jerusalem. Among
his shipmates were President
and Mrs. Itzhak Ben-Zvi of Israel.
During his travels, Hack ,has
investigated the shoe and rub-
ber sole industries in Israel on
behalf of the Ripple Sole Cor-
poration of Detroit.

MRS. ARNOLD GRANT
Barbara Lois Margolis and
Sanford Grant were united in
marriage in an evening cere-
mony at Holiday Manor, Aug.
22. Rabbi Morris Adler and
Cantor Jacob H. Sonenklar of-
ficiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and - Mrs. Sam Margolis,
23670 Radclift, Oak Park, and
her husband is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Grant of 21630
Church, Oak Park.
The ivory peau de soie bridal
gown featured a square neck-
line, short sleeves and an em-
pire bodice of hand corded
Alencon lace appliqued' in mo-
tifs of tiny crystal and pearl
beads. Garlands of matching
lace adorned the side panel of
the gown, and the crushed cum-
merbund cinched the floor-
length dome shaped skirt ex-
tending into a chapel train. A
fingertip poufe veil of white
silk illusion fell from a tiara of
heirloom pearls. The bride car-
ried a cluster of white orchids
and stephanotis on her consecra-
tion Bible.
Matron of honor was Mrs.
Stewart Chalem of . Chicago, Ill.,
and Martin Grant attended his
brother as best man. The bridal
party also included her paternal
grandmother, Mrs. Mayer Mar-
golis, who was escorted by the
bride's brother, Michael Mayer
Margolis. Robert and Sheldon
Grant, brothers of the bride-
groom, served as ushers.
Following a brief honeymoon
in Chicago, the couple will take
up residence in Des Moines, Ia.,
where the bridegroom is a stu-
dent at Des Moines College of
Osteopathy and Surgery.
