BBI- JOSEPH RABINOWIT
ead of the Congregation, •

By RABBI SAMUEL J. FOX
The S'hofar is blown in the
synagogue during each day of
the month of Elul.
Practically, the shofar issues
a call to repentance and reminds
the populace of the approach-
ing Day of Judgment which
takes place on the New Year
festival of Rosh Hashanah.
Historically, the sound of the
shofar serves as a reminder
that Moses made his second
ascent up the mountain of Sinai
on the first day of Elul. This
was Israel's second chance,
since the people had sinned
during his first ascent.
The fact that he was received
indicated that Israel had been
pardoned for the sin committed
during his first visit to the
mountain top. Our situation be-
