NEW YORK—George Lincoln
Rockwell's Washington - based
American Nazi Party was
roundly denounced in the State
Supreme Court here Wednes-
day as an organization that ad-
vocates the mass extermination
of Jews. A dozen attorneys rep-
resenting a wide variety of
Jewish and non-Jewish organi-
zations petitioned the court to
uphold the refusal of New York
City to permit Rockwell to hold
a public rally in this city.
The hearing before Justice
Henry Epstein was on a peti-
tion of the New York Civil
Liberties Union, which insisted
that the city permit Rockwell
to hold a rally in Union Square.
The CLU disassociated itself
from Rockwell's views, holding
only that his constitutional
rights of free speech would be
violated if he were to be shut
out of his "right" to hold a
public rally.
After two hours of argument,
Justice Epstein reserved de-
cision on the CLU petition and
all the counter-petitions, giving
all attorneys until Friday after-
noon to file briefs.
Attorney Redfield told the
court that Rockwell should be
given a permit for a meeting
at Union Square and not in any
other place in the city that the
parks commissioner might des-
ignate.
Among the organizations that
argued against granting Rock-
well a New York park permit
were the American Jewish
Committee, represented by Ed-
win J. Lukas; Jewish Labor
Committee, represented by
Leon Backer; Jewish War Vet-
erans, Theodore Brooks; As-

anyone—except those loyal to Rockwell who would not testify
against him—about what really happened July 3, since he
stood all the time near Rockwell behind the ropes in the uniform
of the "troopers" and was in Rockwell's confidence. It was
not until much later that the Nazi party realized that Clifford
actually infiltrated to gain more knowledge about the real
face of the movement.
Clifford and another reporter of the Washington Daily
News, Tom Kelly, wrote a three-part series on Rockwell.
Here is how Clifford describes what happened on the mall
before police broke up the riotous meeting:
"Rockwell sent me to a park police officer standing beyond
the ropes, to say he would not speak until the mob was quiet."
But the police officer did not care, so Rockwell sent another
trooper through the ropes to stir up the crowd. A fight started
but police grabbed the two involved before it spread. At that
point J. V. Kenneth Morgan, the "deputy commander," sug-
gested "We ought to agitate them some more" and Rockwell
said, "Go ahead." Morgan walked up and down in the "circle
of defense" and made loud insulting remarks to the crowd.
While Morgan was still circulating, Rockwell mounted the
platform and screamed "Jews, dirty Jews," until finally the
crowd broke through the ropes.

Eichmann Asked
Mass Arrests of
Argentinian Jews

OFFENBURG, German y,
(JTA) — Adolf Eichmann, the
the No. 1 Nazi specialist in the
extermination of 6, 0 0 0,0 0 0
Jews, now awaiting trial in
Israel after being captured in
Argentina, had ordered the ar-
rest of . Argentine Jews while
he was in power under Hitler.
The paper "Die Bunte Illus-
trierte," printed a photostatic
copy of a dOcument dated Jan.
28, 1944, as proof of the latest
charge against Eichmann. The
document shows that Eichmann
ordered that Argentine Jews
living in areas under Nazi con-
trol be arrested and sent to the
Bergen - Belsen concentration
camp. That camp was one of the
I many where Jews were extermi-
nated during the Hitler regime.
