Composers in Stratford

STRATFORD, Ont.—On Sun-
day the International Confer-
ence of Composers opened at
the Stratford Festival. Sixty-
two composers from 20 nations
—including Israel—are to dis-
cuss their art and to hear their
musical compositions played be-
fore, and frequently by, the men
who composed them.
This Friday will be devoted
to the most experimental and
radical subject in present day
musical expression—electronic
music. Panelists from I s r a e 1,

Canada will discuss an 1 demon-

sion, various methods by which
music can be pr oduced by
synthetic means and the atti-
tudes of composers to these. An

Dr. Kaplan Reports on Common Cold Causes

Two of mankind's oldest petty
plagues, the common cold and
the common corn, run neck-to-
neck in any race for manpower
loss laurels, according to Dr.
Earl Kaplan, chairman of the
scientific committee of the
Michigan Chiropody Association.
"Modern medical science has
succeeded in isolating the
causes of the common corn al-
though the cold virus still
eludes the scientific isolation
booth," he stated.
Dr. Kaplan, a member of the
Board of Trustees of the Amer-
ican Podiatry Association, made
his comments in reporting the
latest finding of the American
Foot Health Foundation, a
scientific group organized by
American foot specialists to do
research in problems of foot
health.
According to the findings of
the Foundation, the most fre-
quent sufferers are people
whose jobs require standing for
