By ELIAHU SALPETER JTA Staff Correspondent in Israel (Copyright, 1960, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Inc.) which Israeli scientists are en- gaged. Research of wide interest for most under-developed countries, particularly those located in arid ar semi-arid zones, is con- ducted in the fields of botany and zoology. In the field of zoology, ani- mal husbandry is of particular interest to the Israeli scientists. While Israel attaches great importance to applied research, considerable time, money and particularly brain-power, is de- voted to fundamental and gen- eral research. Such research is being conducted into the causes of cancer, genetics, radio biolo- gy, experimental embryology and a wide array of problems in human physiology and neu- rology. Interesting research is being done on the history of medicine in Israel and among the Jews in the diaspora. - Prof. Dvorjetski, himself a physician and a survivor of the Vilna Ghetto, collected a biog- raphy of 1,500 papers and monographs in twelve languages on the following subjects: prob- lems of pathology during the period of holocaust, pathologic- al consequences of the holocaust among its surv'vors, criminal "medical" experiments by Nazi practices. Dr. Dvorjetski also has col- lected hundreds of papers, re- ports and documents from oth- er ghettos and concentration camps which provide a tragic but unique source for the study of the horrible phenomenon of men on the border line between life and death characterized by complete apathy and resigna- tion.
