GENEVA — A niece of the
late Dr. Theodor Here, founder
of political Zionism, has been
released from a Romanian
prison where she has been in-
carcerated, and a number of
other Romanian Zionists are
scheduled for early freedom
from jail, according to press
dispatches from Bucharest re-
ceived here Tuesday.
Dr. Herzl's niece, Mrs. Butza
Weiss, a Romanian citizen, had
been an employe of the Israeli
embassy in Bucharest when she
was arrested about six months
ago. Her husband, who had
served a long prison sentence
was released about the time
she was arrested and has since
left for Israel.
With the release of Mrs.
Weiss, the Romanians report-
edly freed another Zionist, said
to have been a leader of the
Zionist=Revolutionist party. His
name was not disclosed.
The Bucharest report •names,
as those scheduled for release,
veteran Zionist leader M. Cerd-
ler, who is reportedly suffering
from tuberculosis; Miriam Zil-
berman, Israel Hart, Ianou Grin-
berg, Paul Blumenthal and Zol-
tan Wurzel.
Sources close to the Jewish
Agency here expressed surprise
at the report, but wondered also
whether the Zionists who may be
released from jail will be per-
mitted to leave Romania.
Zionists freed from Romanian
prisons previously had been for-
bidden to leave the country to
join their families abroad.

PANAMA CITY, (JTA)—
A public school here will be
called "State of Israel," ac-
cording to a decree issued by
President Ernesto de la
Guar di a, also signed by
Ovidio de Leon, Minister of
Education.

R 0 M E, (JTA) — A liberal
newspaper here, Paaese Sera,
criticized the late Pope Pius
XII for failing to speak out
against mass arrests and depor-
tations to death camps of Jews
in this city by the Nazis in
1943.
The newspaper reproduces
archives from the files of the
Center for Jewish Documenta-
tion, in Paris, citing the fact
that the Germans were appre-
hensive lest the Pope denounce•
their mass arrests of Jews.
"The Germans," declares the
newspaper, "were expecting an
official reaction from the Holy
See on the deportations of
Roman Jews. This reaction did
not take place. This facilitated
the ferocious action of the
Nazis."
