JERUSALEM-The harvest
of Israel's bumper cotton crop,
which will begin next week,
is expected to satisfy the en-
tire demand for local consump-
tion for the first time since
cotton was experimentally cult-
ivated eight years ago, Ministry
of Agriculture sources predict-
ed Wednesday.
A total of 20,000 acres of
cotton has been planted
throughout the country this
year. Next year's crop is ex-
pected to exceed the 1960
quota and supply enough cot-
ton for the country's textile
export market, in addition to
satisfying the local demand.
Arrangements have been
made to assure an adequate
supply of cotton pickers for
the harvest.

Method of Electing
Councilmen Rapped
by Clovis Ferguson

Clovis C. Ferguson, who was
a runner-up for the nomin-
ation for the Detroit Common
Council at the Primaties, in
a statement addressed to The
Jewish News, pointed out that
the nominees hardly represent
"the people's choice".
A statistician of note, Ferg-
uson, one of the candidates,
showed that the two top men,
who were nominated, received,
respectively, less than 3 per
cent and 2 per cent, respective-
ly, of the registered Detroit
votes. He also showed that
only 33 per cent of the regis-
tered voters cast their ballots.
Ferguson stated that city em-
ployees who endorsed candidates
emerged the victors, and he
added:
"I question the desirability
of the use of voting machines
to record the accurate desires
of voters, since most citizens
are not familiar with the many
mechanical gadgets appearing
before them when they enter
the mechanized booths. Paper
ballots would be more desir-
able and less confusing to
voters.
"What happened to the 120,-
706 votes which did not regis-
ter on the voting machines
for the 42 council candidates
on Aug. 2nd?
"Will the voters of Detroit
continue in their present state
of complacency and permit the
city emyloyees, their families
and their close friends to dic-
tate the nominees to the city's
elective offices?"

Argentine and Israeli spokes-
men agreed that the formal ac-
cord reached here between the
two countries had closed the
Adolf Eichmann incident and
would mark the resumption of
the normal, friendly relations
About 100,000 new cases of
which formerly prevailed.

Angelo Centeno, Argentine States every year, yet TB can
Foreign Under-Secretary, con- be prevented. Get a chest X-ray!
firmed that Argentina regarded
Israel's acknowledgement in
the joint communique that Ar-
gentine rights had been violat-
ed, as the "adequate repara-
tion" which was demanded of
Israel in the Security Council
resolution of June 23. He com-
mented that "world opinion
will judge how Argentina act-
ed in this matter."
A Buenos Aires judge has
ordered an 'investigation into
the kidnapping of Eichmann
here last May. The order was
issued by Federal Judge Leo-
poldo Isurralde on the basis
of a complaint brought by
Eichmann's wife, Vera. Judge
Issuralde ruled that Mrs. Eich-
mann had no legal right to
sue since Eichmann was the
person directly affected.
