Cultural Society. Picketing of Kosher Butcher Shops Called 'Intimidation and Coercion' The Detroit Retail Kosher Meat Cutters Association, in a statement issued this week, condemned as unfair the picket- ing of three of the kosher meat markets by members of Local 632 of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butchers Union. Stating that the three stores "are being made the scape- goats," the Retail Kosher Meat Cutters Association states that the picketing "results from the association's refusal to violate the labor relations law, as de- manded by the union." The union, the association states, has attempted to intimidate the as- sociation and to coerce it "to agree to contract provisions which the law expressly pro- hibits." The association states that employees of the kosher meat stores earn from $132 to $175 a week, enjoy many fringe bene- fits and "as a unit are the highest paid butchers in the state and possibly in the nation." Assuring the community that "all' stores are open for busi- ness as usual," the association states that it has "taken • steps to have the matter determined by the National Labor Relations Board." It invites the commu- nity's cooperation until the issue is disposed of. Among those who attended the meeting were Prime Minis- ter David Ben-Gurion, Cabinet ministers, Herut members of the Knesset (Israel's parlia- ment) and leaders of the Re- visionist movement. President Ben-Zvi told the gathering that Jabotinsky's writing s, translations and speeches, which infused Rus- sian Jewish youth with Zion- ism, were known to him long before he had ever met the Revisionist leader. Premier Ben-Gurion, whose attendance at the meeting was regarded as a sign of concilia- tion between two Zionist points of view which had been at odds for nearly 40 years, said that his would be "subjective im- pressions of the tragic Zionist figure." Mrs. Ben-Zvi urged the gath- ering that the unifying fea- tures of Jabotinsky's life be recalled. Others paying tribute were Knesset Deputy Arieh Altman, Professor Eri Jabotin- sky, only son of the late Zionist leader and Menahem Arber, former commander of Etzel, the Revisionist underground or- ganization in Palestine during the British Mandate. Meanwhile, in New York, a pilgrimage to Jabotinsky's grave at the New Montefiore ceme- tery, Pine Lawn, Long Island, was arranged by the United Zionists-Revisionists of America. Among the participants at the memorial -service were members of the Zionists-Re- visionists of America, the League of Veterans of the Jew- ish Legion, which fought with Lord Allenby against the Turks, Knollwood Sets Wednesday as Its President's Day One of the biggest and most elaborate annual President's Day celebrations in the 37-year history of Knollwood Country Club is planned for next Wed- erans.
