MRS. IVAN SCHATTEN

Gail Marilyn Cooper became
the bride of Dr. Ivan C. Schat-
ten recently in a garden wed-
ding ceremony held at the home
of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and
Mrs. Wilfred Katz of W. Outer
Dr.
Rabbi Segal and Cantor Fena-
kel officiated.
Parents of the couple are Mr,
and Mrs. Nathan Cooper and
Mrs. David Schatten and the
late David Schatten.
The bride wore a cocktail-
length gown of egg shell chiffon
over ivory satin with a scoop
neckline a n d three-quarter-
length sleeves. Her pearl-trim-
med head band held in place a
shoulder-length veil , of French
illusion. The bride carried 'a
Bible mounted with a bouquet
of stephanotis .-and white or-
chids. -
Mrs. Sanford. Eichenhorn of
Tucson, Ariz., 'served as her
sister's matron of honor. Brides-
maids were Linda Cooper, sister
of the bride; and Sandra Kwel-
ler of Brownsville, Pa., sister-
in-law of the bridegroom.
Alex' Kweller of trownsville
was his brother-in-law's best
man.
Out of town guests attending
the wedding were from Florida,
Washington, D.C., Arizona, Ohio
and Pennsylvania.
The couple plan -to reside
at 3962 Suitland Ave., Washing-
ton, D.C., after a honeymoon in
the Catskills.

on Sept. 11 at Varsity Recrea-
tion. Officers for the new season

treasurer. On the board of direc-

in Theater Series

Detroit's subscription p 1 a y
series for 1960-61 will open
Aug. 23 at the Riviera Theater
with the best musical comedy
produced on Broadway last sea-
son,' the Puiltzer Prize winner,
"Fiorello!," the song-and-dance
story of the early years of New
York's colorful mayor, Fiorello
La Guardia.
The August opening makes
Detroit the first city of the
road schedule to begin the new
season.
The series is planned and
administered by the Theater
Guild-American Theater Society
under the auspices of the Coun-
cil of the Living: Theater.
Another eagerly awaited at-
traction, scheduled to come to
Detroit shortly after the. engage-
ment of "F ior ell o!", is "A
Majority of One," a comedy
starring Gertrude Berg and
Cedric Hardwicke. .
In the course of the season,
Detroit subscribers will see
"At The Drop Of A Hat," "A
Raisin in the Sun," "Five Fin-
ger Exercise" and others' to be
announced.

Mrs. Eva Lastar, will be hon-
ored by her relatives and
friends on Aug. 7 when she
celebrates her 90th birthday.
A family dinner on Aug. 6
and an open house from 2 to 5

at the home of her children,
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene H. Lastar,

The nonagenarian was born
in Germany, married in South
Africa and then moved to Lon-
don. She raised her family in
Canada, where she and her hus-
band were active in the Zionist
Organization. Bernard Lastar
was a president of the Zionist
Organization of Ontario.
They moved to Israel (at that
time, Palestine) and stayed
there for 20 years. When her
•husband died, Mrs. Lastar came
to Detroit to live with her son,
Eugene.
She has two other children,
Oscar of San Pedro, Calif., and
Sophie' of Highland Park, N. J.,
eight ' grandchildren and 12
great grandchildren. .
An avid reader with a vital
interest in politics, Mrs.. Lastar
still is an active traveler. She
is a member of a number of
golden age clubs.
