One of the most important

Michigan attorney — member-

Examiners — was conferred
this week upon Harry M. Nayer,
of 19179 Manor.
The appointment was made
by Gov. G. Mennen Williams
upon the unanimous recommen-
dation of all eight justices of
the Michigan Supreme Court.

PARIS — The Conference of
Jewish Material Claims against
Germany listed figures to show
that less than one-fifth of claims
for compensation by individual
victims of the Nazi era had
been processed by the first of
this year.
Delegates at the conference
session here were told that of
2,674,328 claims which have
been filed, only 596,403 had
been processed as of Jan. 1.
The delegates also learned that
the West German Indemnifica-
tion Law expires on Dec. 31,
1962, and that at the present
pace the full program could
not be completed by that date.
The Claims Conference re-
corded its "deep concern" over
the slow pace at which the ad-
judication of claims were being
processed in West Germany,
and urged the West German
states, by whom the federal
law is being administered, to
speed the rate of settlement of
claims.
"A few of the states are keep-
ing to the schedule and will
cover their complete list before
the deadline," a conference
spokesman said. "The others
must do likewise."
The conference urged the
lagging West German states to
simplify the procedures and to
add additional personnel to en-
sure that many thousands "are
not cut off from the indemni-
fication due them and which
they desperately need."
Dr. Nahum Goldmann, who
presided, said that one of the
m a j or bottlenecks was the
processing of claims made for
compensation of permanent
physical and mental injury suf-
fered under Nazi persecution.
He added that many of the
