He made the comment when he received delegations from all Zionist organizations in Belgium. Answering their greet- ings in Yiddish, he apologized for being unable to devote as much time as he wanted to give to the Jewish community during his current visit. "The Jewish people would not have established the Jewish State if, for thousands of years, it had not carried in its heart the hope and nostalgia for it," he added, remarking that he was a man "with two allegi- ances, Judaism and Israel." Prime Minister and Mrs. Ben- Gurion were guests of Queen Mother Elizabeth at Stuyven- berg Castle at a private lunch- eon. The only other guest was the veteran Socialist leader, Calllille Huysmans. During a coffee break in the garden, television, newsreel and press photographers took pictures and the Queen Mother joined in taking photographs. The queen kissed the Prime Minister and his wife goodbye. While the Prime Minister AtadP Invites you to display the new. The Prime Minister attended a dinner Monday night in his honor given by Premier Gaston Eyskens, attended by leaders of the Belgian Senate and Par- liament and various Cabinet Ministers. Ben-Gurion met at the Israel Embassy here with a delegation of the Belgian Socialist Party for which he had arranged a dinner earlier this year in Haifa. Premier Eyskens said at the dinner that it was his pleasure to note "the friendly relations between our two countries and our two peoples who bath want to work for peace in a fruitful way." The Premier added that the relationships were developing "harmoniously, especially in the economic field where some re- cent initiatives give the hope that new progress will be achieved." He added he was certain that "useful cooperation between Israel and the young state of the Congo will be estab- lished and that the Congo will find in Israel things to follow as examples, mainly in the field of rural economy and the organization of cooperatives." Greeted ceremoniously at the airport by Prime Minister Eyskens, Minister for For eign Commerce Jacques van Offelen, and Viscount Meeus d'Argentuil, who represented Queen Mother Elizabeth, Ben- Gurion reviewed a guard of honor, then read a statement emphasizing the friendship between Belgium and Israel. Speaking in French, Ben- Gurion said: "All free nations, large or small, are committed to solidarity in the defense of peace and fundamental liber- ties." In his reply, Eyskens declar-. ed: "It is an honor and a plea- sure for the Belgian government to receive Mr. Ben-Gurion." Ben-Gurion was accompanied here, as he was in France, by his wife, Paula, and his daugh- ter, Mrs. Ranana Leshem. Ben-Gurion Stresses Will for Peace; Defends Stand on Trying Nazi Eichmann PARIS- (JTA) — Israel's Prime Minister David. Ben- Gurion completed his state visit to France Sunday by voicing praise for the "will for peace" displayed by leaders of the free world — President Eisenhower, President Charles de Gaulle of France, Prime Minister Harold Macmillan of Great Britain, and Chancellor Konrad Adenauer of the West German Republic. He left for Brussels, Belgium, Mon- day. "I do not say that the leaders of the Communist countries do not have an equal will for peace," he added. "I have not met them to judge their senti- ments." He added that Israel remained ready to meet Arab leaders and to discuss with them all problems, including the Arab refugee problem, without any prior conditions. At a luncheon given in his honor by the French diplomatic press association, Ben-Gurion expressed hope that peace with the Arabs would come eventu- ally. He said he did not rule out a confederation with the Arab states, adding that "in such a climate, we might be able to cooperate with our neighbors in the political, economic, social and cultural fields for the good of the entire region." The prin- cipal needed, he said, was a desire for peace. Only then, he added, can a solution "to all problems be found." The Prime Minister strongly defended Israel's stand that it is "morally and legally en- titled" to try Adolf Eichmann for • the crimes he committed against the Jewish people as Hitler's specialist. in mass mur- der. He said that, while Israel did not exist as a state when Eich- mann committed his crimes, "it existed in the hearts of the Jewish people. Israel is the only country which can judge a man who deliberately killed 6,000,000 Jews." He said there was no opposition between jus- tice and law in Israel's plans for Eichmann because "justice is the superior form of legisla- tion." He added that not only would Eichmann's trial in an Israel court not violate any law, but that it would serve the interests of historic justice. "No man with a conscience can deny that it is the duty of the Jewish State to try a man accused of such crimes against the Jewish nation," he declared. He expressed confidence that the Nazi criminal, whose right to a lawyer of his own choos- ing has been acknowledge, would be tried "in a just way" according to the procedure of , Israeli courts.
