Harry Blitz to Head
Young Israel Council

Harry L. Blitz, a charter
member and past president of
Young Israel of Detroit, has
been elected chairman of the
Young Israel Council of Met-
ropolitan Detroit, succeeding
Jerome W. Kelman in the post.
The new chairman is also a
founder of Northwest Young
Israel, served as a president and
is now treasurer. Assisting Blitz
will be David Cern, secretary;
and Hillel Abrams, treasurer.
Blitz also announced the ap-
pointment of Lou Penfil, Mar-
shall Goldman, Morris Nobel
and Sam Platt as youth corn-
mission members representing
all four Council branches.

One of life's happiest experi-
ences is watching things grow,
and particularly exciting to par-

dren.
One of the proudest moments
in the life of Mrs. Oak-Woodser
occurred when she recently en-
rolled her young son in the
Ferndale public schools. She
walked along with the little
peanut, and her excitement was
almost a match for his.
The spell was broken
abruptly, however, when at the
school, she noted on the enroll-
ment form a reference to
"church preference." Should she
fill it out and not make a fuss
even though she felt it had no
place there; should she ignore
it; should she ask about it?
Taking the latter course,
she mentioned to school offi-
cials that such a question was
a breach of church and state,
and asked why the question
was included on the enroll-
