The conference begins Saturday eve- ning. Representatives at the Con- ference will hear addresses by American and Israeli leaders. These will include Ambassador Michael Comay, Israel's Perma- nent Representative to t h e United Nations, and Dr. Abram Leon S a c h a r, president of Brandeis University. Synagogue Bombed in Uruguay; None Hurt Moses Goodstein has a right to look pleased as he stretches his arms to encompass 22 loose-leaf fillers. Bound in these simple black covers are more than 3,500 pages of hand-written study on Judah ibn Quraish, a 10th Century Hebrew lexicographer, exegete and philologist, which Good- stein spent 12 years in writing and which he has submitted to Yeshiva University in New York City for the Ph.D. degree. This detailed study of the man Goodstein has termed "the first comparative philologist" includes a new translation of Quraish's "Risala," along with notes and discussions. The Bronx Hebrew teacher received his doctorate from the Ber- nard Revel Graduate School at Yeshiva University's 29th annual commencement exercises June 16. Memorial Tribute to Joffe, June 29 A memorial tribute in honor a the late Boris M. Joffe, executive director of the Jewish Community Council, will be observed June 29, 8:30 p.m., at the Jewish Center, 18100 Meyers. Announcement of the oc- casion was made by Stanley J. Winkelman, Community Council president. Program plans are being developed by a special committee appoint- ed by Winkelman and con- sisting of Sidney M. Schirmer, senior vice president of Campbell Ewald Company, was named chairman of a metropolitan area com- mittee to coordinate. fund rais- ing and other relief activities for victims of the recent Chil- ean earthquakes. The American National Red Cross has made an initial cost allocation of $175,000 to Chil- ean relief and has sent donated materials worth $412,000. The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee has donated $7,500, N. bile CARE, in addition to quantities of drugs and foods, has made an initial allocation --of 50 building block machines, along with picks and shovels with which to assist reconstruction. Lebanese Find 'Gang' . `Smuggling' Jewis to Israel LONDON, (WJA)—A Middle East News Agency report claims that a 20-year-old Jewess of Aleppo, who was accompanied by a Lebanese resident of Aleppo, was arrested at Dab- busiyah while trying to cross into Lebanon. The girl "confessed" that she had paid the Lebanese to smuggle her into B e i r u t, whence she expected to leave for Brazil. Later investigations, the report claims, established that her brother in Aleppo was a member of a "gang smuggling Jews into Israel." 3 U. S..Producers to Film Capture of Eichmann HOLLYWOOD, (JTA) — Three producers were reported to be planning films based on the trackdown and seizure of Adolf Eichrnann, Hitler's mass murder specialist. Bryan Foy, in his first film for Paramount, plans to pro- duce "The Eichrnann Track- down," with filming to start in about eight weeks. The Mirisch Company is planning "The Adolf Eichmann Story" for United Artists. Twentieth-Cen- tury Fox will make "Adolf Eichmann, Nazi War Criminal," for which it has put in a bid for film rights to the story of Tuvia Friedman, head of the Haifa war crimes documenta- tion center. * * * Bonn to Press Argentine for Extradition of Nazi LONDON, (JTA) — The West German Government intends to press Argentina to grant the extradition of Dr. Josef Men- gele, a physician in the Nazi concentration camps, who has been on the "w ante d" war criminals list for the last 15 years, the London Daily Express reported. So far, the paper re- ported from Bonn, the Argen- tine authorities have "stone- walled" the extradition request . The Daily Express reported from Buenos Aires that Martin Bormann, top Nazi, who was with Adolf Hitler in the Berlin bunker where the Fuehrer died in May 1945, "almost certain- ly" died in Argentina two years ago of natural causes. It said the West German Government had kept up a "running fight" with the Argentine Government in an attempt to clarify the facts on Bormann, "but each time a definite clue was un- covered, the Argentine author- ities suddenly turned vague and obstructive." . Mexican Zionist Federation Starts Yiddish Publication MEXICO CITY, (JIA) — The Mexican Zionist Federation, recently organized under the chairmanship of Cemach Port- noy, began issuing a new Yid- dish monthl y, Zionistische Blaetter, edited by the well- known poet, Jacob Glantz, gen- eral secretary of the Zionist Federation here. MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay, (Special) — The first outbreak of anti-Semitism here in several months was reported Monday with the bombing of a syna- gogue. No one was hurt in the blast, although a fire started causing some damage to the building and others adjacent to it. Un- exploded bombs were found simultaneously in other Jewish establishments in the city. • Police were checking to de- termine whether there was any connection between the bomb- ings and the seizure of Adolf Eichmann from nearby Argen- tina. It was reported in Brazil that police had been ordered to ar- rest any foreign agents found engaging in unauthorized in- vestigations. It was thought that Israeli agents on Eichmann's trail might also be hunting other Nazi war criminals.
