Mrs. _Harry J. Finke, of Great Neck, N.Y., has been elected president of the Jewish Braille Institute of America for a two-year term, succeeding Mrs. Louis J. Bieber, of New York. Mrs. Finke, who has been a braille tran- scriber and teacher of braille tran- scribing on a volunteer basis for a number of years, served as recording Mrs. Finke secretary of the institute for the past four years, as chairman of braille for the Nassau County (N.Y.) Chapter of the American Red Cross, and as chairman of serv- ices for the Blind, New York State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods. The Jewish Braille Institute's headquarters are at 48 E. 74th St., New York City, where it maintains a free circulating li- brary of more than 8,000 braille volumes and 500 full-length re- corded "talking books." Leaders in Paris for Global Education Parley Forty world experts in Jewish education will gather in Paris June 29-30 to plan the first in- ternational conference on Jew- ish education, wit ha tentative date for the summer of 1961. Dr. Maurice L. Perlzweig, di- rector of the World Jewish Congress' international affairs department in New York, who left for Paris in connection with the sessions, said that the Paris conference will be attended by Jewish scholars and educators from a number of countries, in- cluding the United States, Can- ada, Argentina, Britain, France, Israel, Australia, South Africa and Yugoslavia. Grads Three Michigan students, two of them from Detroit, received Bachelor of Arts degrees at the ninth commencement exercises at Brandeis University, Sunday. Miss Auslander, a Dean's List student, was an English and American literature major. She plans to attend Yale University in the fall, where she will earn her Master of Arts degree in education. She is a graduate of Mumford high school and has attended the University of Mich- igan. Stratford Awaits Millionth Patron SIRATFORD, Ontario — The Stratford Shakespearean Festi- val of Canada will welcome its one millionth patron this sum- mer. Theater-goer No. 1,000,000 will pass through the Festival Theater's glass and chrome doors some time in late July. And when he (or she) does, the gift from the management will be a lifetime pass—an invita- tion for two to attend one per- formance of all future produc- tions at the festival, free of charge. In the Festival's first seven years, 939,071 paying patrons attended 544 performances of 16 different plays. The 1960 Stratford Festival will open June 27 with Douglas Seale's production of "King John." David Raskin and Andre Pre- vin will appear, separately, on the stage of the Avon theater, Aug. 24 and 25, during the film festival's first week. "The plan," Applebaum said, "is to have each of the com- posers discuss-the special prob- lems, techniques and motiva- tions in creating music for the movies."
