The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Schwartz, of Huntington Woods, wore a gown of whit. silk taffeta with an open neckline, bracelet-length sleeves and a molded bodice of Alencon lace. Garlands of the lace also adorned the dome- shaped skirt, which fell into a cathedral train. - She also chose a inantilla of matching lace, anu carried a bouquet of white orchicIE-- and stephanotis arranged on her confirmation Bible. Mrs. Cal DeRoven, sister of the bridegroom, was matron of honor, and Marjorie Shuman was maid of honor. Carole Ann Schwartz, sister of the bride, was junior bridesmaid, and Karen Layne, Mollie Alexander and Arlene Dvorin were brides- maids. The bridegroom, son of Mrs. Goldie Kane, of Snowden Ct., and the late Mr. Benjamin Kane, was attended by Cal De- Roven as best man. Ushers were Joe Starikoff, Paul Schreiman and Norbert Metler. Irving Bittker, of 25891 Concord, Huntington Woods, this week received a USO citation from Lt. Col. F. H. Scantling on behalf of Jewish Welfare Board groups serving at the USO canteen. The citation represents 34,886 volunteer hours served by Jewish volunteer workers. Mr. Lawrence Bryan Silver, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Silver, of 19471 Robson, was graduated with high distinction from the School of Accountancy of the University of Michigan. He was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma fraternity in recognition of his high scholastic standing. He will pursue his studies in the fall at the Harvard University Law School. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Zalla, of 15250 Rosemary, Oak Park, announce the graduation of their son, Dr. Harvey B. Zalla, from the University of Detroit school of dentistry. He received his doctor of dental surgery degree on Thursday. Miss Edith Morris, Mumford high school student, received a $200 first prize in a citywide retailing contest sponsored by the Detroit Retail Merchants Association. Her prize-winning manual was on "Zippers." Other prizes in this contest, which was open to retailing classes in all Detroit high schools, were awarded to third prize winners Carol Gortat and Carole Gold- stein, both of Mumford, who each received $50. Each entrant was asked to prepare a merchandise manual on any product she chose. Dr. David L. Edgar, the son of Dr. Irving I. Edgar, of Detroit, will resume residence here after being awarded the Master of Science degree in oral anatomy and orthodontics by Loyola University, Chicago college of dentistry, where he completed two years of post-graduate studies. Dr. Edgar, a captain in the U.S. Air Force dental corps from 1955 to 1957, was graduated from the University of Michigan college of dentistry in 1955. Mr. Franklyn S. Stein, son of Mr. and Mrs.. Morris Stein, of 3224 Elmhurst, was graduated Thursday from the school of business administration at Wayne State University. Mr. Stein, an accounting major, has accepted a position with the U.S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Internal Revenue. He was affiliated with Mu Beta Chi professional business fraternity and plans to enter law school in the fall. Mr. Gilbert Averbuch, of Roselawn Ave., left by air Thursday for Israel, where he will enjoy an extended visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Averbuch, of Bnei Brak. He will also attend the dedication of the new Stoliner Synagogue in that city. Mr. Moshe Dworkin, of 8811 W. 7 Mile, is spending a week at home after attending the University of Wisconsin on a Wood- row Wilson Fellowship in political science. He will leave next week for the Machnei Hertzl Camp in Webster, Wis., where he will serve as program director. In the fall, Mr. Dworkin will return to the Madison campus to study on another scholarship. Rabbi Harold Geltman and family, of Macon, Ga., will he here next week for the 71st anniversary conference of the Cen- tral Conference of American xabbis. They will be the guests here of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Edwards, of 18096 Hubbell. Grand Rabbi Israel Rabinowicz, presently the spiritual leader of a synagogue in Miami, Fla., visited here this week with Rabbi Jacob Hoberman, of 17377 Indiana. He spoke at a number of orthodox synagogues during his visit. A former rabbi in Kishinev, Romania, Rabbi Rabinowicz is a seventh generation of the Baal Shem Tov, founder of the Hassidic movement. Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Trager, of Murray Hill Ave., announce the graduation of their son, Gerald Milton, from Wayne State University with a BS degree. He will enter the Chicago College of Osteopathy in September. Herman Gould, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gould, of 22131 Harding, Oak Park, received the degree of doctor of optometry upon graduation earlier this month from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He was a member of Tomb and Key and Beta Sigma Kappa, honorary fraternities, Gamma Omega Phi, the Michigan Club and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Gould and his wife will remain in Chicago, where he will join the faculty of the school. A party in honor of the 25th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zaft, of 15301 Oak Park Blvd., was tendered by their children. Handler said that tickets are available at U. of D., the Sheraton-Cadillac, Fort Shelby, Henrose, Detroit Leland and Park Shelton Hotels. Concerts Start June 20 The Herschel Leib Summer Park Band will commence the season's open air programs Monday, at Patton Park, .Wood- mere and Vernor. William DeMaria will be the baritone soloist. For the balance of the week, Leib's orchestra will present concerts at Peterson P a r k, Greenfield and Curtis, on Tues- day; Balduck Park, Warren and Canyon, Wednesday; Stoepel Park, Outer and Evergreen, Thursday; and Palmer Park, Friday. These concerts, on the same days of the week, at the same parks, will continue through Aug. 12. Programs will be changed weekly. Handler, chairman of the sports committee for the International Freedom Festival, this week announced the sign- ing of Ronnie Cohen, New York welterweight, and Bill Flamio, also of New York, to complete the third 10-round match for the show.
