Joffe, of 19164 San Juan. executive director of the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit, who died Saturday, shortly before noon, at Sinai Hospital, after a four- month illness. National leaders and govern- ment officials, as well as heads of scores of organizations, were present the funeral services at noon Sunday at K a u f man Chapel. Rabbi Morris Adler delivered the eulogy. Among the pallbearers were Isaiah Minkoff, of New York, execu- tive director of the National Community Relations Advisory Council; Prof. William Haber, of Ann Arbor, president of the World ORT; Roy Reuther, na- tionally prominent labor leader, and local Jewish leaders. An honor guard was formed at the funeral by the Jewish War Veterans of Michigan. U. S. Senator and Mrs. Philip A. Hart flew in from Washing- ton to attend the funeral services Sunday. Joffe is survived by his wife, Miriam; two daughters, Rena and Shira, and a son, Victor. Born in Russia, in 1903, Joffe came to the United States in 1922, after being active in coun- BORIS M. Thoroughly schooled in Russian history, he was a strong opponent of the Communist practices and was blacklisted by both the Stalin regime and its successors. On his tenth anniversary in Detroit, Joffe was given the community's gift of a trip for himself and Mrs. Joffe to Israel. There they traveled for a time with Governor and Mrs. G. Men- nen Williams. Joffe had become one of Governor Williams' con- findantes and was frequently called to the State Capitol for advice and guidance on import- ant state matters.
