A rustic setting and modern facilities are combining to make Camp Walden one of Michigan's most appealing summer camps for boys and girls, aged 6 to 16. Located in the northeastern part of the state, only 25 miles from the Mackinac Bridge, Camp Walden offers campers a host of activities and summer fun in a clear, pollen-free area. The camp has a sand-bottom beach on an inland lake, and conducts a variety of daily and evening programs. These range from such water sports as waterskiing and canoe tripping to barn dancing and dramatics. Friday evening services are conducted each week. The name Walden, according to its directors, Neal Schechter and Larry Stevens, both of whom have had many years of camping and teaching experi- ence, is borrowed from Henry David Thoreau's classic book. Here, in prose that is re- garded as a classic, Thoreau de- scribed his hermitage amid the beautiful surroundings of Wal- den Pond in Massachusetts. Schechter and Stevens, who have both attained master's de- grees in education, have de- voted many years to child guid- ance activities. For information, call UN. 2-2440 or UN. 3-9097.
