He was best known for his render- ing into Yiddish of the Kale- vala, the epic poem of Finnish literature. In 1954 he was hon- ored by the Finnish govern- ment for his work, which was hailed as a literary tour de force in the Yiddish language press. Rosenfeld spent many years in the translation into Yiddish of what he considered characteristic American writ- ing.
