Lorillard Publishes a History of. Tobacco The P. Lorillard Co., in cele- bration of its founding in 1760, has published a new, highly- illustrated, popularly - written book depicting in words and pictures the history of tobacco. Entitled "Lorillard and To- bacco," the book shows that the origins of tobacco and its use are lost in unrecorded pre-Co- lumbus history, but from the days of its founding, tobacco was always prominent on the local secene. Lorillard, which is the world's oldest tobacco company, was established 200 years ago by Pierre Lorillard, a young French immigrant who had crossed the ocean to seek religi- ous freedom. The firm's growth has paral- leled the the rise of America and its economy, and has con- stantly changed its product line in conformity to changes in consumer taste — snuff in the 1760's to 1960's filter cigarettes. Among the brands of cigar- ettes produced by the Lorillard firm today are Kent's Micronite Filter, Old Gold Spin Filter, Newport menthol and mint combination and Spring. awards went to the following students: Leslie Schefman, Amy Zim- merman, Lester Silverman and Suzy Rubinstein, second prize; Susan Jacobstein, Sharon Tei- tlebaum, Judy Hahn, Marco Sil- vagi, Roberta Eder, Nina Hirsch, Linda Meltzer, Linda Victor, Janet Shaffer, Diane Parquette, Carol Gudwin and Sandy Collins, Jr., honorable mention. Proceeds from the carnival, the major fund raising project of the PTA, are used for pur- chasing equipment for the school and for sponsoring other MacDowell projects. Co-chair- men are Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Rudner and Mr. and Mrs. Jo- seph Kaufman. Past activities of the group have included 'the graduation tea and dance, purchase of uni- forms for the safety boys and band, equipment for the kinder- garten, tool shop and science classes, and the sponsorship of the Cub Scouts, Brownies and Boy Scouts. A new project is a lending service for the library whereby children may take out books to read at home. WHAT EVERY BRIDE SHOULD KNOW .. .
