LONDON—JawaharaIal
Nehru declared here Monday
that India is not establishing
diplomatic relations with Israel
because the Middle East situa-
tion is "very emotive" and such
abstention on the part of India
"contributes toward the maint-
nance of stablity" in the Middle
East region.
Nehru pointed out that India
does recognize Israel "de jure"
but that sending a diplomatic
mission now to Israel" he
stated, "would complicate an al-
ready complex situation. Arab
antagonism toward Israel is
very emotive. We could serve
best by abstention from the
sending of a diplomatic mission
to Israel."
