Detroit Women's League to Close
Hadassah Sets
Election Meeting, Fund-Raising with Donor, May 16
Installation Event

Detroit Chanter of Hadassah
will elect and install new offi-
cers at a subscription luncheon
planned for 12 noon, Tuesday,
at the new Town and Country
Club.
Mrs. Dora Ehrlich, honorary
president and member of the
national board of Hadassah, will
install the new officers. Mrs.
Harry L. Jones, a former chap-
ter president, will deliver the
invocation.
According to Mrs. Julian
Tobias, vice-president of pro-
gram, a dramatic reading - com-
memorating the 100th anniver-
sary of the birth of Theodor
Herzl, Zionism's founder, will
be given by Beth-Sheva Laikin
Davidson.
Also highlighting the pro-
gram will be a musical presen-
tation by "The Accents," • four.
members of Hadassah, Mes-
dames Herbert Stoorman, Mau-
rice Reizin. Ernest Mendelsohn
and Harold Ross.
The newly-elected administra-
tion will immediately embark
on a campaign to enroll new
chapter members, under the di-
rection of Mrs. William J. Hu-
bert, who is assisted by Mes-
dames Josenh Ravit, Jack Boxer
and Harry Talbot.
-A pep rally already. has been
scheduled for 12:30 p.m., May
19, at Hadassah House, when.
Mrs. Morris Adler, wife of the
rabbi of Cong. Shaarey Zedek,
will be featured speaker. All
group vice-president, member-
ship chairmen and workers are
urged to attend.
H-Day, when reports on mem-
bership progress will be tallied,
will be the occasion for a tea,
which will be attended by new
members and their sponsors.
Hostesses will be Mesdames
Theodore Bargman, Ralph Da-
vidson, Joseph H. Ehrlich, Max
R. Frank, William Isenberg, I.
Jerome Hauser, David J.
Schachter, Morse Saulson, Bert
Smokier and Frank Wetsman.
Mrs. Hubert announced that
the worker enlisting the most
new members will receive an
all-expense trip to the national
Hadassah convention, to be held
Sept. 11 to 14, in New York.

24 Actors Arrive for

Stratford Rehearsals

Thirty-four actors out of a
total company of 65 arrived in
Stratford, Ontario to begin re-
hearsals for the most ambitious
season the Stratford Shakes-
pearean Festival has yet under-
taken.
'These principal players will
be joined by the balance of the
troupe on May 23 to prepare
three Shakespearean plays —
"King John," "A Midsummer
Night's Dream" and "Romeo
and Juliet"—for their opening
nights on June 27, 28 and 29.
Many of them, including U.S. ac-
tress Julie Harris, were taking
their first steps on the festi-
val's celebrated platform-stage.
Others, like Christopher Plum-
mer, Bruno Gerussi Douglas
Rain, Kate Reid and Tony Van
Bridge were returning to the
scene of previous success.

Osnos Announces
New Sams Store

Max Osnos, president of Sams
Incorporated, announced the
opening of a new Sams store
on Monday. May 16, in the Tay-
lor Town Shopping Center, at
Ecorse (M-17) and Pardee
Roads, in Taylor Township.
The Sams store, occupying
90,000 square feet, will be the
largest in the 26-store shopping
center, which is being devel-
oped by Charles Gershenson,
Detroit investor. The center will
have parking facilities for 2,000
cars. It contains 250,000 square
feet of building area.
