Kadans Drafts Legion Traffic Safety Sermon A sermon on safe driving which will eventually find its way into all of Michigan's churches and synagogues has been prepared and sent by Detroit attorney Joseph Kadans to the 510 American Legion posts in the state. Kadans was named state safe- ty officer for the Legion's De- partment of Michigan by Lewis C. Bricker, commander, at a recent executive committee meeting in Bay City. The sermon deals with the newly-adopted Legion safety slogan "Obey — Observe — Ob- lige." The safety activity is in the nature of volunteer work by Kadans. who is well known in local religious circles. Presently chairman of the board of Cong. Shomrey Emunah, Kadans is commander of Legion Post 485. Prior to en- teirng law practice, he was safety engineer with the U.S. Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Inter-State Commerce Commis- sion. Brandeis Women Seek More Books Mrs. Jerry Morse, vice-presi 2 dent of the book fund for the Detroit Chapter, Brandeis Uni- versity Women's Committee, this week issued an appeal for many thousands of more books for its May 15 and 16 sale. Over 10,000 books are sought in all fields of literature: his- tory, philosophy, law, science, fiction, encyclopedias and paper backs. While the books should be in good condition (not torn or mildewed), Mrs. Morse said that all books will be welcomed so that adequate returns will be guaranteed for the purchase of new books for the Brandeis li- brary. The sale will be held May 15 and 16, at the Maxine Sheldon Studio, 19355 Livernois, when special attractions will be pre- sented by Mrs. Charles Brisk- man, vice-president, and her program committee.
